OUR HISTORY

A Legacy of Family and Hospitality

The Amsterdam Inn & Suites is not just a hotel; it's a testament to the deWinter family's remarkable journey, which began in 1952 when John de Winter Senior and his family emigrated from the Netherlands to Strathroy, Ontario, Canada. After 12 years, they found their way to the quaint town of Sussex, New Brunswick.

Sussex swiftly became the nurturing ground for the family's first entrepreneurial endeavour, specializing in manufacturing modular houses. Throughout the years, the invaluable assistance and support of the community have played a vital role in the flourishing ventures of the family.

For 30 years, the deWinter family has strived to provide exceptional customer satisfaction and
personal touch to each guest. The distinct service delivery has become a testament to John Sr.’s Dutch heritage and esteemed business ethics.

Many years later, the vision of John Sr. has been passed on to his children and grandchildren
ensuring that the next generations of the deWinter family will continue the development of Amsterdam Inn & Suites.

The Amsterdam Inn & Suites is now in its 3rd generation. As a family of entrepreneurs with interests in hospitality, real estate, and construction industries, the second and third generation of de Winters is ready to follow the same path into the hospitality industry
